VICTORIA, Seychelles — A new women’s empowerment programme titled JUDPPH has been launched to benefit at least 300 women across the islands through targeted skill-building and knowledge-sharing activities. The initiative is funded by the National Grants Committee under the Ministry of Finance, with implementation expected to roll out across Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue over the coming months.
The programme focuses on financial literacy, small business development, and health awareness, with a strong emphasis on peer support and mentorship. According to organisers, participants will engage in workshops, training sessions, and community-based projects designed to build confidence and create sustainable income opportunities. The approach combines classroom learning with practical, hands-on activities.
According to the programme coordinators, JUDPPH draws inspiration from successful women’s empowerment models in the region and has been adapted to address the specific challenges facing Seychellois women. The curriculum includes modules on entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and personal finance management, alongside sessions on mental health and family wellbeing. Participants will also be connected with established business owners for mentorship opportunities.
The programme is expected to run for an initial period of twelve months, with regular assessments to measure impact and identify areas for expansion. Officials said the goal is to create a supportive network of empowered women who can mentor others in their communities. The initiative complements the government’s broader efforts to promote gender equality and economic inclusion across all sectors of society.
