Seychelles Marks Children’s Welfare Day With National Focus

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles marked Children’s Welfare Day with a series of events and activities across the islands, placing national focus on the rights, wellbeing, and development of children. The day provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the country in protecting and nurturing its young people, while also reflecting on remaining challenges and areas for improvement.

Events were held in schools, community centres, and public spaces, bringing together children, parents, educators, and child protection professionals. According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the day was designed to raise awareness of children’s rights, promote positive parenting, and highlight the services available to support families. Activities included educational sessions, performances, exhibitions, and recreational events for children of all ages.

According to ministry officials, the welfare of children remains a top national priority, with continued investment in areas including education, healthcare, nutrition, and child protection. The ministry works closely with partner organisations to deliver integrated services that address the diverse needs of children and families. Recent initiatives have focused on early childhood development, mental health support for young people, and the prevention of violence and abuse.

Officials said Children’s Welfare Day serves as an important reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure that every child in Seychelles grows up in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. The ministry has called on all partners and institutions, including government, civil society, the private sector, and communities, to continue working together to protect and promote the rights of children. The day concluded with a renewed commitment to building a brighter future for the country’s youngest citizens.
