NGOs Celebrate Contributions to Seychelles Community Development

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Seychelles have come together to celebrate their contributions to community development, highlighting the vital role they play in addressing social, environmental, and cultural challenges across the islands. The event brought together representatives from dozens of organisations to share experiences, recognise achievements, and look ahead to future collaboration.

According to the event organisers, NGOs in Seychelles operate in a wide range of areas including health, education, environment, gender equality, disability rights, youth development, and the arts. The sector has grown significantly in recent years, with organisations playing an increasingly important role in delivering services, advocating for marginalised groups, and complementing the work of government. The celebration provided an opportunity to acknowledge these contributions.

According to speakers at the event, NGOs face both opportunities and challenges in their work, including the need for sustainable funding, capacity building, and effective engagement with government and the private sector. The event featured discussions on these themes, with participants sharing best practices and exploring opportunities for collaboration. Several organisations also launched new initiatives and partnerships aimed at increasing their impact.

Officials from government and partner agencies expressed appreciation for the work of NGOs and reiterated their commitment to supporting the sector. Participants called for continued dialogue, improved coordination, and a more enabling environment for civil society organisations. The event concluded with a renewed commitment from all partners and institutions to work together to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient Seychelles for all.
