CEPS Meets with President to Strengthen Collaboration and Address National Priorities
Representatives of the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (CEPS), led by Chairman Dr. Odile Decommarmond and Chief Executive Officer Ms. Tessa Henderson, met with the President Dr Patrick Herminie on Friday 27th March, at State House to discuss a range of proposals aimed at strengthening collaboration between civil society and Government.
The meeting brought together CEPS leadership and members of the wider business and civil society community to address key issues affecting civil societies, including associations, platforms, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Central to the discussion was the role of CEPS as both a registered association and a national platform representing civil society’s interests.
CEPS highlighted its longstanding engagement with the Government, highlighting that with previous administrations they faced a lack of follow-up and feedback in recent years and called for renewed government attention to the needs of NGOs, many of which continue to face significant financial challenges.
During the meeting, CEPS underscored the critical role civil society plays in national development, particularly in supporting grassroots communities. The delegation also raised concerns regarding the potential impact of the ongoing Gulf situation on Seychelles, emphasising that global developments could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s economy and vulnerable populations.
CEO Ms. Henderson stressed the importance of national unity and public awareness during this period, noting that it is essential for local media to throughly keep citizens informed about global events and their potential implications for Seychelles.
The President acknowledged the concerns raised and emphasised the importance of public awarenessand transparency. He added that he will soon address the public to outline the Government’s position and the measures being considered.
The President reassured that Seychelles remains stable at present, while noting the importance of maintaining strong and sustainable government finances in the face of evolving global challenges.
CEPS reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Government, emphasising its intention to complement national efforts and contribute meaningfully to the country’s development through strengthened partnerships.
