Youth excellence takes centre stage as President attends National Youth Awards 2025

A total of 93 young Seychellois were honoured this evening at the National Youth Awards 2025, recognising their achievements across a wide range of fields, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, and First Lady Mrs Veronique Herminie, whose joint attendance underscored the government’s continued commitment to empowering youth as a central pillar of national development.

Organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), the ceremony, which was also attended by Vice President Sebastien Pillay, and other government officials, celebrated excellence in youth leadership, innovation, arts, sports and community engagement, bringing together some of the country’s most dynamic and promising young individuals and organisations, while highlighting the critical role young people play in driving a dynamic, resilient and future ready Seychelles.

Participants were honoured not only for their accomplishments, but for their contribution to shaping a more dynamic and forward looking society.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of one of the most prestigious honours, the Most Engaged Youth Award, which was awarded to Febien Jeanne alongside Emergency Crew Academy, recognising their outstanding commitment to youth engagement and advocacy.

Reacting to the recognition, Mr Jeanne expressed gratitude and emotion at receiving the award. “I feel emotional. I was not expecting this. I sincerely thank SNYC for recognising the value of my work, both locally and internationally. I have had the opportunity to attend several international conferences, where I have advocated for the rights of young people,” he said.

“Through hard work, resilience and dedication, I have remained committed to youth engagement. I thank God for giving me the strength and purpose to continue this journey, and I am deeply grateful to my family and friends for their unwavering support,” he added.

Delivering the keynote address, the Minister for Youth and Sport, Ms Kalsey Belle, described the ceremony as a celebration of potential, perseverance and possibility. “Tonight is about you. Your efforts, your passion, your courage to show up, to try, to fail, to grow, and to rise again,” she said.

She commended young people for their determination and willingness to step beyond their comfort zones, often in the face of challenges and adversity.

“Whether you receive an award or not, each and every one of you here represents something powerful, the future of Seychelles. By simply being here tonight, you have already won,” she added.

Encouraging continued resilience, Ms Belle reminded participants that the journey does not end with recognition.

“This is not your limit. This is your starting point. Your journey is still unfolding,” she said, urging young people to remain focused and committed to their goals.

The Minister also reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting youth development.

“As government, we remain committed to walking this journey with you, not ahead of you, not behind you, but alongside you. Opening doors, empowering you, and ensuring that your potential is never limited by your circumstances,” she stated.

The evening featured a vibrant programme of musical and dance performances, poetry and award presentations, reflecting the creativity and talent of Seychelles’ youth.

As the ceremony unfolded, awards were presented across multiple categories, culminating in the recognition of the most engaged and impactful youth and groups in the country.

The National Youth Awards continues to serve as a key platform for recognising and encouraging youth excellence, while reinforcing the important role young people play in shaping the future of Seychelles.
