Dr Herminie Elected President at USYS Annual Ordinary Congress

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Dr Patrick Herminie has been elected President of the Union Seychellois des Jeunes Sportifs (USYS) at the organisation’s Annual Ordinary Congress. The election marks a new chapter for the union, with Dr Herminie outlining an ambitious agenda focused on youth sports development, international engagement, and the strengthening of the union’s governance structures.
The congress brought together delegates from sports clubs and federations across Seychelles to review the union’s activities, approve its programme of work, and elect office bearers. According to USYS officials, the meeting was characterised by robust debate and a strong spirit of unity among delegates. The new leadership team was elected following a transparent and democratic process, with all candidates given the opportunity to present their vision for the union.
According to Dr Herminie, the union will prioritise expanding access to sports for young Seychellois, strengthening coach education, and increasing Seychelles’ participation in regional and international competitions. The new president emphasised the importance of working closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council, and the local sourcesal Youth Council to deliver on these priorities. He also pledged to improve communication with member organisations and to enhance transparency in the union’s operations.
The congress also featured reports from outgoing office bearers, presentations from partner organisations, and discussions on the future direction of youth sports in Seychelles. Officials said the meeting reflected the vibrancy of the sports movement in the country and the commitment of volunteers to supporting young athletes. The new leadership team is expected to begin work immediately on implementing the priorities set out during the congress.
