Moyenne Island Foundation Donates CCTV System to SPGA for Marine Park Surveillance
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Moyenne Island Foundation has donated six advanced CCTV systems to the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA), to provide continuous real-time surveillance of the Ste Anne Marine Park. The cameras were symbolically handed over to SPGA chief executive Allen Cedras by foundation chairman Suketu Patel at a short ceremony on Friday morning at the SPGA’s Marine Operations Base, Ile Perseverance.
Fully funded by the foundation at a cost of R235,000, with the SPGA contributing an additional R100,000 for labour, fibre optics and additional materials, the cameras are fully integrated with the EarthRanger platform, allowing rangers to draw on live data and respond more effectively. Seven cameras have been strategically placed around Moyenne Island, providing comprehensive views of surrounding regions, including Ste Anne Island, the coral nursery, and turtle nesting beaches.
Special advisor in the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources, Denis Matatiken, said the installation reflects shared responsibility in environmental stewardship amid intensifying ecosystem pressures. SPGA CEO Cedras described the handover as a celebration of collaboration and shared conservation responsibilities.
