Seychellois Mountaineer Catherine Rose Summits Two Mount Elgon Peaks in Kenya

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychellois-born adventurer Catherine Rose has marked a new milestone in her mountaineering journey by summiting both of Mount Elgon’s Kenya-side peaks – Sudek and Koitobos – on November 29, 2025. Sudek, located on the Kenya-Uganda border, rises to 4,302 metres as the mountain’s second-highest point, while Koitobos, at 4,222 metres, is the third-highest peak.

Under the guidance of Trailblazers KE, Mrs Rose completed the demanding traverse in a single day — a rare feat, and even more uncommon for women. ‘I’m incredibly proud of this accomplishment. Climbing Sudek was no small feat, and walking along the rim of the caldera to reach Koitobos required every ounce of endurance,’ she shared.

For the first time, the Seychelles flag flew proudly atop these peaks, symbolising the nation’s growing presence in the world of mountaineering. Mrs Rose thanked her guides and the broader climbing community for their support, and said she is looking forward to her next expedition.
