Faure Champions Regional Shipping and Health Cooperation at Comesa Council Meeting
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Barry Faure, addressed the 46th Comesa Council of Ministers Meeting in Lusaka, Zambia, on December 4, 2025, calling for stronger regional collaboration to advance initiatives that benefit island and coastal member states.
Minister Faure called for renewed efforts toward the establishment of a regional shipping line, highlighting its potential to reduce transport and logistics costs, improve reliability of essential imports, and strengthen collective resilience to global disruptions. He welcomed the completion of a feasibility study on the proposed shipping line and expressed Seychelles’ readiness to engage in the next steps, working closely with the Indian Ocean Commission.
Turning to health, the minister stressed the value of pooled procurement of pharmaceutical products, noting that smaller member states such as Seychelles depend heavily on regional mechanisms for affordable access to essential medicines. He also congratulated Lina Hoareau, a Seychellois national, on her appointment as manager of human resources at the Comesa Court of Justice.
