Christmas Parade Brings Colour and Music to Victoria After Lighting Ceremony
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The lighting of the Christmas decorations across Victoria on Sunday evening was followed by a vibrant Christmas parade that brought colour, music, and movement to the capital. Starting at the Stad Popiler car park, the procession wound its way through Rue de la Possession, around the Clock Tower, along Independence Avenue, past the Bicentenary Monument, and onto Constitution Avenue before returning to its starting point.
The parade brought together groups from across the Seychellois community. The Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam participated with a chariot, the Fire and Rescue Services Agency brought a fire truck, and the Seychelles Police contributed vehicles and motorcycles. The Bikers Association and the Moto Sports Association added their presence, with the latter fielding 40 cars. Cultural performances were also featured by the Seychelles Tamil Mandram and choirs including the Plaisance primary Boys Choir and the National Youth Council groups. Emergency Crew, All Star, and Diamond Dance Class also took part.
Among the spectators were First Lady Veronique Herminie, government ministers, members of the National Assembly and of the diplomatic corps, all joining in the celebration of light, unity, and festive cheer. The parade and lighting ceremony together marked the official start of the festive season in the capital, with the new decorations set to brighten the city throughout the Christmas period.
