Seychelles Police Receives First-Ever Bodycams from Seypec
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec) has officially donated 40 bodycams together with their docking stations, valued at over R245,000, to the Seychelles Police Force. The handover was held on Thursday afternoon at the Central Police Headquarters in Victoria, with the chief executive of Seypec, Sarah Romain, handing over the equipment to Commissioner of Police Ted Barbe.
This is the first time in the country’s history that the police force will be using bodycams, marking a major step in efforts to boost transparency and accountability. In a demonstration of how the bodycam works, Sub Inspector Mickaela Ernesta explained that a red light indicates that the equipment is turned on and filming is underway, while screenshots can be taken by pressing a separate button below the power button. The equipment is expected to be deployed across frontline policing units.
The handover coincided with a visit by President Patrick Herminie and a delegation to the Central Police Headquarters. Commissioner Barbe thanked Seypec for the generous donation, noting that the bodycams will help to strengthen public trust in the police and provide a reliable record of interactions between officers and the public. The donation also reflects the growing partnership between state-owned enterprises and law enforcement in modernising policing in Seychelles.
