President Herminie Makes First Official Visit to Police Headquarters

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Dr Patrick Herminie on Thursday made his first official visit to the Central Police Headquarters since assuming office. He was accompanied by Vice-President Sebastien Pillay and the Minister for Homeland Security and Civil Affairs, James Camille.

The purpose of the visit was to hold discussions with the Commissioner of Police, Ted Barbe, and members of the police executive board. The meeting was held in-camera and included a powerpoint presentation by Commissioner Barbe, followed by the two parties exchanging views on the force’s operations, challenges, and the continued efforts to enhance service delivery and public safety. The discussions covered a wide range of issues including crime prevention, community policing, and resource needs.

Speaking after the visit, officials noted that the engagement reflected the new government’s commitment to supporting the police force and ensuring that it has the tools and structures needed to deliver on its mandate. The visit comes at a time when the country is looking to strengthen its law enforcement capacity and address emerging security challenges. The Presidency is expected to work closely with the police leadership on a series of reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and public trust in the force.
