Anse Aux Pins Resident Aline Thomas Celebrates 100th Birthday

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Madam Aline Thomas, a resident of Anse Aux Pins, celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday surrounded by members of her family. Born on February 10, 1925 in the district of Anse Etoile, Mrs Thomas spent her early years in the La Louise and Anse Aux Pins districts where she has lived for many years.

Mrs Thomas, who is the mother of 18 children — 13 of whom survive her — was widowed three times during her life. Her eldest surviving son, Simon Thomas, told this newspaper that his mother has continued to be active despite a chronic knee problem and remains the centre of affection for a large family network that now extends to great-grandchildren. ‘I have been blessed with a good mother, despite the many problems I have encountered,’ he said.

The centenarian received a visit from the hospital’s geriatric department and the family marked the milestone with a small gathering at the family home in Anse Aux Pins. Mrs Thomas said she had always tried to eat well, keep a good heart and care for her family. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to mark the occasion may visit the Anse Aux Pins Clinic, which has served the community for many years.
