Seychelles Islands Foundation Launches Giveback Policy

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Islands Foundation has launched its giveback policy, which aims to support projects in education, sports, healthcare, culture and conservation. The foundation has been committed to community engagement for many years, actively supporting the Praslin community, and last year this was formalised with the launch of the giveback programme. In its continued efforts, the foundation developed a giveback policy, which serves as a guiding framework for funding requests.

The policy was launched in a ceremony held at the Vallée de Mai reserve. Present were the Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs, Rose-Marie Hoareau, the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert, the chairman of SIF’s board of trustees, Bernard Georges, other board members, SIF’s chief executive, Dr Frauke Fleischer-Dogley, and other officials from the foundation. Among the policy’s aims are to promote the adoption of renewable energy, introduce clean technologies in schools and support other community-focused initiatives that extend far beyond SIF’s immediate operational boundaries.

As part of the move towards sustainability, Praslin secondary school will be having a solar photovoltaic system, an initiative that SIF is committed to supporting. The pledge certificate for the SP39 project was handed over to the head teacher of Praslin secondary school, Ian Collie. He stated that this initiative marks a significant milestone in the school’s journey towards environmental responsibility and sustainable development. Dr Fleischer-Dogley said through the policy, SIF wanted to ensure that there are a set of criteria such as benefits of the requested projects, their impact, and whether these will help drive other changes in place. A budget will be allocated and approved each year for the giveback programme.
