First Lady Hosts Breakfast Celebrating Women in Media

Marking World Press Freedom Day and extending celebrations of International Women’s Day, the Office of the First Lady hosted a “Breakfast with the First Lady” event on May 4 at Bel Eau, bringing together over 30 women media professionals.
First Lady Véronique Herminie emphasized the vital role women play in shaping public discourse in Seychelles, noting that women comprise the majority of media professionals in the country. The event featured discussions on challenges unique to women journalists, including work-life balance, gender bias, and the demands of irregular schedules.
Participants discussed the importance of producing locally relevant content and strengthening media literacy in an era of misinformation. Each attendee received a commemorative shield recognizing their contributions.
The gathering coincided with Seychelles’ improved ranking in the World Press Freedom Index, rising from 45th to 35th place out of 180 countries, according to Reporters Without Borders.
