Golden Jubilee of Independence Celebrations Put in Motion Across Seychelles

VICTORIA, Seychelles — As Seychelles celebrates its Golden Jubilee of Independence, a new campaign is inviting the public to take part by sharing simple moments from their everyday journeys, with specially branded SPTC buses unveiled in Beau Vallon connecting communities across the islands. The Seychelles Golden Jubilee Independence campaign focuses on the experiences of people using the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation buses, highlighting how public transport connects communities and supports daily life.

The Golden Jubilee campaign aims to involve all Seychellois in celebrating 50 years of independence, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s history. The campaign encourages citizens to reflect on the country’s progress since independence while looking forward to the future, with public transport serving as a central theme linking communities across Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue.

Three specially branded SPTC buses were unveiled in Beau Vallon in March, serving as moving symbols of the Jubilee celebrations. These buses travel across the islands, inviting passengers to share their own stories and experiences, creating a collective narrative of Seychelles’ journey over the past 50 years as a sovereign nation.

Seychelles gained independence from the United Kingdom on June 29, 1976, and the 50th anniversary celebrations are being marked by a series of official events, community activities, and public engagement campaigns throughout 2026. The Jubilee provides an opportunity for reflection on the nation’s achievements in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development.

The campaign highlights how everyday moments of travel and connectivity form the backbone of national unity and progress. From early morning commutes to evening journeys home, the experiences of ordinary Seychellois using public transport reflect the broader story of a nation moving forward together.

The Golden Jubilee campaign invites all Seychellois to celebrate 50 years of independence through shared journeys and community stories.
