Government Invites Public Consultation on 5-Year Aldabra Management Plan

VICTORIA — The Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources has opened a public review period for the draft 2027–2031 Management Plan for the Aldabra Group Marine National Park. The park is the largest marine protected area in the Seychelles, covering a vast 201,235 km² of ocean.
The draft plan outlines 49 priority management actions categorized into four main pillars: biodiversity conservation, governance, sustainable financing, and community access. Developed through extensive stakeholder consultation and financed by SeyCCAT with funding from the Blue Nature Alliance, the plan aims to balance the protection of this UNESCO World Heritage site with sustainable blue economy activities.
Citizens, scientists, fishers, and tourism operators are encouraged to review the draft on the Ministry’s website and submit feedback via an online form before the closing date of May 8, 2026. The Ministry emphasized that public input is essential for shaping the future management of this globally significant marine ecosystem.
