National Address System Project Expected to Be Completed by End of 2026
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The National Address System project, which has been in the making for nearly a decade, has gained strong momentum over the past 18 months. This was revealed on Monday by the chief executive of the Postal Regulator, Neddy Padayachy, when briefing local media on the project’s progress at the Trade department’s headquarters at Maison de L’Esplanade. He was joined by Delroy Bistolet from the department of Land Transport and Peter Estico from the department of Local Government.
The initiative seeks to introduce a modern, standardised, and efficient system addressing framework across Seychelles, ultimately improving connectivity, service delivery, and national data management. The project is expected to be completed by next year. Officials noted that the system will bring Seychelles in line with international best practices in postal and digital addressing, while supporting the work of emergency services, utilities, and e-commerce providers.
Mr Padayachy explained that the project has moved from a planning phase into active implementation, with pilot zones already identified in the three main islands of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. The system, once in place, will assign a unique address to every dwelling and business in the country, replacing the current system that relies on informal place names and descriptions. The Department of Land Transport and the Department of Local Government are key partners in the rollout, ensuring that the new addresses are consistent with road networks and local government boundaries. The project is being delivered in close collaboration with stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
