Electoral Commission Delegation in Dubai for Run-Off Ballot Paper Printing
VICTORIA, Seychelles — A delegation led by the Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) is in Dubai to oversee the printing of ballot papers for the presidential run-off, which started on Wednesday.
Chief Electoral Officer Manuella Amesbury leads the team, which also includes a representative of both parties contesting the second round of the presidential election — United Seychelles (US) and Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS). The delegation left Seychelles on Tuesday evening.
According to Mrs Amesbury, the exercise includes finalising the contract with the printing house, attending to other preliminary logistics prior to printing such as verification of the papers, verification after printing, endorsement and signature of the papers, including the braille folders, by ECS and the parties’ representatives. ‘We remained at the printing house for a long time until the first batch of ballot papers was completed,’ she explained.
The delegation is expected back in the country this Sunday on board an Emirates flight from Dubai. The presidential run-off is set for October 9, 10 and 11, after the incumbent Wavel Ramkalawan of LDS and Dr Patrick Herminie of US failed to get the over 50 percent required to be declared president in the first round.
