35th Teacher’s Week Celebrations Launched in Seychelles

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The 35th Teacher’s Week was officially launched on Wednesday at the Anse Royale crèche by the Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin, under the theme ‘The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want’. The opening event was mainly for teachers from the Southern region.

International Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5. To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Education, together with schools across the country, has organised a series of activities from Wednesday October 1 through to Saturday October 11, 2025. Activities include a dance performance by teachers from Baie Lazare school, a series of professional development workshops, public lectures, school visits and award ceremonies.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Valentin paid tribute to teachers for their dedication and contribution to the development of the country, emphasising the central role they play in shaping future generations. He noted that the theme this year recognises the need to continue investing in the teaching profession to ensure quality education for all.

The Ministry of Education has encouraged schools, parents and members of the public to take part in the celebrations and to acknowledge the work of teachers in their communities. The closing ceremony will be held on Saturday October 11, with the presentation of long-service awards and the naming of the national teacher of the year.
