First State-of-the-Art Classroom Opens at Praslin Secondary School
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The first state-of-the-art classroom at Praslin secondary school was officially launched on Saturday in the presence of the First Lady, Linda Ramkalawan, the Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin, the Chinese ambassador to Seychelles, Lin Nan, the principal secretary for education sector development, John Lesperance, and the vice-chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Joëlle Perreau. The initiative is part of the SMART Education Project, a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Cable & Wireless Seychelles and Huawei.
The project will transform classrooms with state-of-the-art digital solutions, providing both students and educators with the tools they need for a modern learning experience. These classrooms are equipped with smart boards, interactive displays and digital devices aimed at supporting the pedagogical methods used in schools. Praslin secondary is the first school to receive such a classroom, and the partners intend to roll out the model to other schools across the country in due course.
Speaking at the launch, the partners underlined the importance of digital innovation in preparing Seychellois learners for an increasingly connected world. The SMART Education Project builds on existing efforts to modernise teaching and learning in Seychelles and is expected to provide teachers with new tools to deliver more engaging and interactive lessons, while giving students access to a wider range of digital resources.
