Farm of Hope Opens in Port Launay as Seychelles Welcomes International Therapeutic Community
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Fazenda da Esperança, an international therapeutic community translated as “Farm of Hope,” officially opened a branch in Seychelles on Saturday, located at Port Launay in the Port Glaud district. The ceremony was officiated by President Wavel Ramkalawan, who unveiled a commemorative plaque alongside Father Jose Luiz de Menezes, president of Fazenda da Esperança, Apostolic Nuncio Bishop Tomasz Grysa and Bishop Alain Harel of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Victoria.
The opening included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Victoria and Fazenda da Esperança, formalising the partnership that brings the global rehabilitation initiative to Seychelles. The Farm of Hope movement operates in several countries and offers a residential programme for individuals recovering from addiction, combining community life, spirituality and vocational training.
The Seychelles branch is expected to serve as a regional hub for the Indian Ocean, offering hope and structured support to those seeking recovery. Religious leaders present at the ceremony blessed the premises and prayed for the success of the new initiative, which marks a significant step in addressing substance abuse and social reintegration in the country.
