Seychelles Marks World Youth Skills Day With Focus on AI and Digital Skills
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Today marks the tenth anniversary of World Youth Skills Day, an annual observance established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 to highlight the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship. The 2025 edition places particular emphasis on artificial intelligence and digital skills.
Officials at the Ministry of Education said the day provides an important opportunity to reflect on how best to prepare Seychellois youth for the changing world of work, especially in sectors that are being reshaped by automation and digital transformation. They noted that digital literacy and AI-related skills are increasingly becoming essential for young people entering the labour market.
Activities to mark the day in Seychelles included a series of workshops, school visits and career talks aimed at exposing students to the range of opportunities available through technical and vocational training. Education stakeholders called for stronger partnerships between government, the private sector and training institutions to expand access to digital skills programmes across the country.
