SITE Launches Future Builders Campaign to Revive Interest in Teaching
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE), in collaboration with the Teachers’ Council Board, yesterday launched a national campaign under the theme ‘Future Builders: Teaching the Nation Forward — Because Every Profession Starts with a Teacher’. The campaign, launched at SITE in Mont Fleuri, aims to revive interest in the teaching profession.
To launch the event, Minister for Education Dr Justin Valentin asked whether the profession remains attractive to young people. He noted that unfortunately, some join the profession as a ‘louvraz ki ou fer’ (a job not by choice), and many are doing the job with a heavy heart. ‘This campaign is the beginning of that thinking,’ he said, stressing the need to address the underlying issues affecting morale in the profession.
Campaign organisers said they will work closely with schools, the Teachers’ Council Board and other partners over the coming months to highlight the value of teaching and to encourage more young Seychellois to consider it as a career. A series of school visits, public talks and media activities are planned as part of the rollout.
