Independence Day Parade Brings Patriotism and Colour to Victoria

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Constitution Avenue served as the backdrop for this year’s National Day Parade, marking the 49th anniversary of Seychelles’ independence with a vibrant display of national pride. The event, held under sunny skies, brought thousands of spectators dressed in the red, blue, yellow, white and green of the national flag.
President Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, presided over the ceremony. They were joined by Vice-President Ahmed Afif and his wife Stella Afif, Speaker of the National Assembly Roger Mancienne, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Rony Govinden, President of the Court of Appeal Anthony Fernando, and Principal Minister and chairperson of the National Celebrations Committee Jean-François Ferrari.
The parade featured the traditional march-past of the Seychelles Defence Forces, the Seychelles Police, the Seychelles Cadet Corps, schools and youth groups. Cultural performances and a fly-past rounded off the morning. The change of venue from Stad Linite to the capital’s main thoroughfare, now in its second year, was widely praised for bringing the celebration closer to the heart of the city.
