Seychelles Cultural Reform Project to Develop National Content and Heritage
VICTORIA, Seychelles — A cultural reform project designed to strengthen the management of Seychelles’ national cultural content and develop the country’s cultural heritage was launched on Tuesday during a ceremony at the International Conference Centre. The project, which will run from March 4, 2025, represents one of the most ambitious cultural initiatives undertaken by the islands in recent years.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family said the project aims to preserve and promote the rich cultural traditions of the Seychellois people, while also providing new opportunities for artists, cultural practitioners, and heritage professionals. The reform will introduce new governance structures for cultural institutions, improve training pathways for cultural workers, and digitise key parts of the national archive.
The project is expected to run for several years, with the first phase focused on mapping existing cultural assets, identifying gaps, and establishing a national cultural data repository. The ministry said the project would also support the development of new festivals, exhibitions, and cultural exchanges with regional partners. Stakeholders, including artists, traditional musicians, and heritage specialists, will be consulted throughout the implementation period, the ministry added.
