SIFCO Promotes Peace and Conflict Resolution in Praslin Workshop

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A group of individuals from Praslin now have a better understanding of how to respond to and handle conflict and promote peace within their organisations and communities. This follows a one-day session on peace and conflict resolution organised by the Seychelles Interfaith Council (SIFCO) at the Grand Anse Praslin district administration yesterday.

Topics covered during the workshop included an overview of what conflict is, reasons as to why it happens, how it makes people feel, ways to respond to conflict and how it can lead to peace and understanding when handled well among others. Anglican priest based on Praslin, Simon Fred, shared a few thoughts and prayers prior to the start of the session. Speaking to the media, the peace project coordinator, Jean-Claude Matombe, said the activity started since last year following a grant from the National Grants Committee to promote a peace programme.

“SIFCO has brought this programme to Praslin because we want the Praslinois community to be aware of the different ways that they can promote peace. Through this workshop, we are giving an overview of what conflict is, the different types of conflicts, for example the ones within the communities, between two people, in workplaces, at home and even at national level, and methods we can use to resolve these conflicts. We are promoting the idea of having a collaboration whereby everybody shares an idea and how we can find an ideal one which can be used to bring about a peaceful resolution,” he added.
