Praslin Firefighters Hold Special Labour Day Mass at Saint Joseph Church
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Labour Day was a special occasion for the firefighters of the Lazare Servis Teny Dife e Sovtaz (LSTD) on Praslin, who decided to hold a slightly different activity this year, and that was to participate in a special mass organised for the occasion at the Saint Joseph Church in the district of Grand Anse, Praslin. The firefighters did not just attend the mass during the occasion, but they also took part in the procession by bringing the statue of Saint Joseph from a pond not too far from the church, approximately half a kilometre, and then they walked with other parishioners who had brought other statues to the church.
The mass was presided over by Father Christian Toulon, who spoke at length about the working side, where he pointed out that there are people who work a lot, but then there are those who are lazy. He said they need to put God first in their lives so that they will get the necessary guidance. Father Toulon also blessed a fire engine and another transport vehicle that the firefighters use in their work. Worker firefighters Andrew François, stationed at this station, said he was the first to know that the firefighters of his rank had participated in a religious ceremony held at the church.
He added that it was a different thing that was well appreciated by the firefighters and members of the public who also came to attend the mass. Firefighter stationed Peter Cherry, for his part, thanked Father Toulon for receiving them and giving them this opportunity to participate in this special mass. The firefighters also offered a lunch to Father Toulon as a sign of thanks. Children who came to attend the mass were very happy to see the firefighters and their uniforms and also the fire engine, and they managed to take photos. There was an open day at the station on Eve Island in the Baie Sainte Anne district from 9 am, where members of the public could find out more about the work the firefighters do and the career opportunities available.
