Praslin Community Joins ‘Stride for Health’ Walk to Grand Anse to Lemuria
VICTORIA, Seychelles — A group of people from the Praslin community took part in a walk on Friday afternoon to help spread the message of living a healthy and active lifestyle. The walk, entitled ‘Stride for Health: GAP to Lemuria Walk’, started at around 4.30pm at the Grand Anse Praslin community centre, and participants walked up to Constance Lemuria Seychelles, a resort located at Anse Kerlan.
‘Stay active, stay healthy!’ was the motto of the community walk, and its aim was to make it an activity which encourages fitness and wellness. Among its core objectives, the health walk was organised to encourage people to enjoy walking and adopt it as a simple and effective exercise with numerous physical, mental and emotional benefits, and as a way to strengthen community bonds. Those who joined in the walk were of all ages, including young children and senior citizens, who confirmed that they were not just walking but having fun, with one group seen talking and laughing as they walked.
Gia Zialor, office manager at the Grand Anse district administration, said: ‘We are happy with those who have turned up and together we are spreading the message — Your health matters! It was not just walking for fun on a Friday afternoon, but it is about helping to build a healthier and stronger community. We are taking small steps but we will keep working towards giving our community a healthier future,’ adding that they will organise the walk again because those who came are asking for more. The district administrators of both districts on Praslin — Chantal Laure from Grand Anse and Berty Cedras from Baie Sainte Anne — and their teams also took part.
