Au Cap Events Club Donates R5,000 to New Seychelles Hospital Fund

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Au Cap Events Club donated R5,000 to the New Seychelles Hospital Fund at a ceremony at the State House Annex 2 conference room on Tuesday, raising its profile as the first community group to take such an initiative.

Club chairman Patrick Hoareau presented the cheque to Lyderic Chetty of the New Seychelles Hospital Fundraising Committee. Mr Hoareau said the club constantly seeks opportunities to support the community, adding that ‘one of the most impactful ways they can give back is by sponsoring causes that benefit everyone within the community’. The funds were raised through activities organised last year, including fundraisers and fairs, all made possible with the support of Au Cap residents.

Marie-Antoinette Laurence, secretary of the New Seychelles Hospital Fundraising Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying the donation ‘really shows that our plea is being heard’. The committee has so far gathered around R6 million, including support from Absa Bank and donations generated from the recent Lucky Dube concert hosted by Mongy Imports. Ms Laurence also announced that the committee is planning to install 80 collection boxes across all districts, including health facilities and administrative offices, to give the public a chance to contribute to the fund. The community is being urged to assist in transforming the new hospital into a reality for the welfare of all citizens.
