President Ramkalawan Refutes United Seychelles Allegations Against Finance Minister

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has refuted allegations made by the main opposition party, United Seychelles (US), in a recently published press release. In a live press conference from State House yesterday morning, the President said he felt compelled to address the declarations, deeming them as “attacks” against the Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, and the wider government.
The President said the allegations were baseless and politically motivated, and accused the opposition of attempting to undermine the work of the finance ministry at a critical time for the economy. He defended Mr Hassan’s stewardship of the economy, citing the 2025 national budget and ongoing fiscal reforms as evidence of prudent management.
United Seychelles, in its earlier press release, had raised concerns about certain financial decisions and called for greater transparency from the government. The President’s rebuttal underscores the continuing political tensions between the governing LDS party and the opposition, with the country’s next general election due in 2025–2026.
