Seychelles Marks International Education Day with Symposium at SITE

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Ministry of Education marked International Education Day for the fifth time yesterday, under the theme “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation”, at an event held at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE) in Mont Fleuri.

The event featured a two-hour symposium that officially launched the day, marked on January 24, in the presence of top government officials including the Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin; the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie-Céline Zialor; the principal secretary for Educational Services, Merna Eulentin; and the principal secretary for Education Sector Development, John Lesperance. Two keynote speakers — disability-studies scholar and advocate for the blind community in Zimbabwe, Dr Kudzai Shava, and the director of Global Programmes at Think Equal, Priyanka Devani — addressed the gathering.

At the event, Dr Valentin also launched the new Ministry of Education website, which is intended to serve as a single, accessible portal for information on the country’s education system, including the curriculum, examinations, scholarships and teacher-training programmes. The address to the nation on the theme will be broadcast on national television this evening.
