PMC Appeals to Perseverance Tenants Over Water Pipe Repairs and Vandalism

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Property Management Corporation (PMC) has appealed for the cooperation of tenants of block W10 at Ile Perseverance to allow its workers into their homes to replace water supply pipes before the end of the year. Chief executive Linda Philoe-Bristol said the corporation is in the middle of a project to replace the block’s pipe network, which has been damaged, and that staff have so far been refused entry by some occupants.
Mrs Philoe-Bristol explained that, to put the matter right, the pipes need to be replaced from outside to inside the block. ‘The only thing we are asking is for the tenants to give us permission to enter their homes so that our workers can come in to do the work. The only thing we are asking for is their cooperation so that we can enter and finish this work to improve their lives. The work has to be done outside and inside for it to work,’ she said. Rather than contract out the work, PMC has used its own workers, and tenants will not be charged for the repairs, which have so far cost the corporation around R200,000 in materials.
The chief executive said notices had been sent to tenants about arranging a suitable day for the work, but workers had been refused entry. She suggested that some tenants may object to workers coming in because of illegal or anti-social activities on the premises. Mrs Philoe-Bristol also condemned ongoing vandalism in housing estates, including theft of fire-fighting equipment, broken water connections, dumped rubbish and stolen renovation materials. Such acts are now costing the corporation several million rupees a year, with waste clearance alone running between R3,500 and R5,000 per incident. She urged residents to take responsibility for their estates and to stop engaging in behaviour that pushes up costs for everyone.
