Seychelles Marks International Day of Families with Call for Work-Life Balance
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles on Thursday joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day of Families, observed under the theme ‘Family-Oriented Policies for Sustainable Development: Towards the Second World Summit for Social Development’. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family, led by Minister Marie-Celine Zialor, used the occasion to champion families as the bedrock of society and to advocate for stronger work-family balance and equal household partnerships.
In her message, Minister Zialor said the day prompts reflection on the role of families in society and on the modern pressures they face, ensuring that they thrive in a rapidly changing world. “As we face modern-day challenges like changes in our environment, changes in our communities, and changes from external situations and events, we must be care for those who need it. We must, therefore, uphold more of the unity and compassion, tolerance, kindness, respect, faith and shared responsibility. It is through family that we teach our children to protect each other in good times and in hard times. The family is the pillar of our society.”
The ministry said it is committed to writing policies that will help families balance work and home life, raise healthy children, and promote the well-being of individual family members. The chairman of the Fathers’ Association of Seychelles also wished fellow Seychellois families a happy family day, urging them to celebrate in high spirits. The day’s events included a special project at Grand Anse organised by the ministry, with cultural performances, family activities, and the launch of a new family support programme in partnership with the Agency for Social Protection.
