Seychelles Hosts High-Level Training in Educational Measurement and Evaluation

VICTORIA, Seychelles — From April 23 to 25, 2025, a high-level training programme in pedagogical measurement and evaluation was held in Seychelles at the STC conference hall, bringing together around 80 professionals from the education sector. The participants included deputy principals of schools, heads of studies, and members of the evaluations division of the Ministry of Education. The initiative aimed to strengthen evaluative competencies in an educational context in full transformation, marked by digitalisation, the diversification of approaches to learning, and growing demands for equity and quality.

The three-day workshop combined theoretical presentations with practical exercises, allowing participants to develop the technical skills needed to design, administer, and interpret assessments in line with international best practice. Sessions covered the construction of test items, the analysis of pupil performance data, and the use of digital tools to support formative and summative evaluation in the classroom.

Organisers said the training was particularly timely given the ongoing reform of the Seychelles secondary education system and the introduction of new digital platforms for learning. Participants were also introduced to strategies for ensuring assessment remains inclusive and accessible, particularly for pupils with special educational needs. The training concluded with a certificate ceremony attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education, who underlined the importance of building local capacity in educational measurement as a foundation for evidence-based policy.
