First Lady Linda Ramkalawan Honours 40 Exceptional Seychellois Women

VICTORIA, Seychelles — First Lady Linda Ramkalawan has honoured 40 exceptional women from Mahé and Praslin for their significant contributions to society. The celebration, held on Saturday to commemorate Women’s Day, was a heartfelt recognition of the women’s dedication, resilience, and hard work in fields such as the economy, social development, and politics. The gathering, held at the Family House in Bel Eau, provided these women with a rare opportunity to connect with one another, share stories, enjoy laughter, and receive a well-deserved moment of appreciation.

Addressing the women, Mrs Ramkalawan said the event was a fitting tribute to their tireless efforts in shaping their communities and contributing to the progress of Seychelles. She said women from both Mahé and Praslin were invited, and revealed plans to visit La Digue, as some invited guests were unable to attend the event due to health issues. While reflecting on the empowerment of women in Seychelles, Mrs Ramkalawan noted that women empowerment is very strong in the country.

Minister for Youth, Sports and Family Marie-Celine Zialor, who was present at the event, highlighted her ministry’s ongoing collaboration with the First Lady’s office, particularly through initiatives like ‘Hug in a Mug’. ‘In our ministry, we like to thank the community for their efforts, particularly those who are retired. This event is a special one for the International Women’s Day, and it is a wonderful way to express our gratitude to the retired women who have contributed greatly to society,’ she said.
