VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has marked Commonwealth Day by calling on member nations to build a Commonwealth that truly delivers for all. In a message issued yesterday under the theme ‘Together We Thrive’, the President said the theme is a powerful reminder that the Commonwealth is not just a collection of nations but a family bound by shared values, mutual respect, and a collective determination to build a better future. ‘As a small island developing state, Seychelles knows that unity is our greatest strength. In a rapidly changing world, we thrive when we raise our voices together,’ he said.
The President used the message to underline the importance of climate action, sustainable development, and economic resilience, themes he said must remain at the centre of multilateral cooperation. He noted that at a time when multilateralism faces growing pressures, from geopolitical tensions to economic disparities and climate crises, the Commonwealth stands as a testament to the power of cooperation. He described the Commonwealth as embodying what true partnership means: nations of all sizes, histories, and geographies working together towards a shared vision of progress, fairness, and inclusivity.
President Ramkalawan added that the people of the Commonwealth, including young innovators, bold leaders, and resilient communities, are at the heart of this progress. ‘On this Commonwealth Day, we in Seychelles take pride in our resilience, our determination, and our contributions to this global family. Together, we continue to forge a path towards a future where every nation, regardless of size, thrives in peace, prosperity, and shared purpose,’ he said.
