Health Authorities Promote Community Wellness Initiatives Nationwide
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Health authorities in Seychelles have launched a series of community wellness initiatives aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles and preventing non-communicable diseases. The programmes target common health concerns including diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, which have been identified as priority areas in the national health strategy.
The initiatives include screening events, public education campaigns, and partnerships with community organisations to deliver health services closer to where people live. According to the Ministry of Health, the goal is to make preventive care more accessible and to encourage early detection of health conditions. Mobile clinics and outreach teams have been deployed to districts across the country.
According to health officials, the community wellness approach represents a shift from reactive to preventive healthcare, with greater emphasis on lifestyle factors that influence long-term health outcomes. The programmes include nutrition counselling, physical activity promotion, and smoking cessation support. Local healthcare providers have been trained to deliver the new services and to engage with communities in culturally appropriate ways.
The Ministry of Health has called on community leaders, schools, and workplaces to support the wellness initiatives by creating environments that enable healthy choices. Officials noted that tackling non-communicable diseases requires a whole-of-society approach, with individuals, families, and institutions all playing a role. Regular updates on the impact of the initiatives will be shared with the public in the coming months.
