Job Fair 2026 Draws Big Crowd With 910 Vacancies in Seychelles

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Ministry of Employment and Human Resource Planning’s inaugural Job Fair 2026 drew a significant crowd yesterday at the International Conference Centre Seychelles, offering 910 vacancies across 38 employers. The Job Fair 2026 attracted students, graduates, and members of the public eager to explore opportunities presented by various institutions in both the public and private sectors.
The fair introduced several new features designed to make the event more informative and appealing to both job seekers and employers. Minister Idith Alexander explained the motivation behind the changes, stating the fair was designed to better attract the public and address the gaps that hindered the success of the previous year’s event. The fair also featured sessions on initiatives such as the My First Job Scheme, working conditions, the Skills Development Programme, and the Unemployment Relief Scheme.
Among the attendees, job seeker Shany Etwar, who recently completed her post-secondary education, noted that seeing the large crowd and numerous stalls made it feel like a promising opportunity. Parent Mairose Pondar, who attended with her daughter, described the fair as genuinely fruitful, offering a variety of ways to obtain information. Employers also reported encouraging trends, with many applicants under 25 years of age.
Minister Alexander expressed pride in the strong student turnout, noting that 7.6 percent of the recorded 2.6 percent unemployment rate represents youth unemployment. She emphasised the fair’s role in connecting young Seychellois with meaningful employment opportunities. Scenic Landscaping’s HR manager Birgitta Vidot observed that young people are indeed eager to work, with only one of seven applicants being over 25.
The Public Enterprise Monitoring Commission described the fair as exceptionally lively, with strong interest in administrative positions. The Ministry plans to continue such initiatives as part of broader efforts to reduce unemployment and develop the national workforce through targeted skills development programmes.
Seychelles’ Job Fair 2026 marks a significant step in connecting youth with employment opportunities.
