Seychelles Celebrates Measles-Free Certification

The Ministry of Health marked African Vaccination Week 2026 with a ceremony on April 24 celebrating Seychelles’ certification as measles-free, achieved in November 2025.
Health Minister Dr. Marvin Fanny highlighted that this milestone reflects years of maintaining high vaccination coverage, robust disease surveillance, and rapid response protocols. The achievement positions Seychelles among nations that have successfully eliminated measles through sustained public health efforts.
The ceremony, held at the Sheikh Khalifa Auditorium at Seychelles Hospital, brought together health officials, partners, and frontline workers under this year’s theme: “For every generation, vaccines work.”
Officials emphasized the need for continued vigilance to prevent reintroduction of measles, which remains present in other parts of the world, and encouraged families to maintain up-to-date vaccination schedules.
