Chinese Vice President, Han Zheng Tours New SBC House

The Vice-President of the People’s Rupublic of China, H.E Mr Han Zheng, this afternoon toured the new SBC House as part of activities marking the first day of his official visit to Seychelles, the final leg of his African tour.
Vice-President Zheng was welcomed by his counterpart Vice President, Mr Sebastien Pillay, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC), Mr Bernard Dupres, who guided him through several of the facility’s key areas. During the tour, Vice President Zheng was shown the modern studios, spaces, and technical broadcasting facilities that support the corporation’s radio, television and digital operations.
The new SBC House was constructed with the support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China and stands as an important symbol of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Seychelles and China.
The project represents a significant investment in strengthening Seychelles’ national broadcasting capacity and enhancing the ability of SBC to deliver modern, high-quality media services to the public.
The visit comes at a significant moment as Seychelles and China celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The milestone reflects five decades of cooperation, mutual respect, and partnership across key sectors, with projects such as the new SBC House serving as tangible examples of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
The construction of the state-of-the-art facility commenced in April 2019 and was carried out by Hunan No.6 Engineering Co. Ltd. Despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and various technical challenges, the project successfully completed to the highest standards in 2025. The facility consists of three specialized blocks housing the radio station, television studios, and administrative offices, all equipped with cutting-edge technical equipment, marking a significant advancement in the nation’s media infrastructure.
