State House Reviews Security Measures for Former Presidents Protection

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Former Presidents security protocols are under comprehensive review at State House following routine national security assessments that highlighted the need for heightened vigilance regarding the safety of President Patrick Herminie. The Office of the President issued a statement reaffirming its full respect for former heads of State and the legal provisions that safeguard their security and dignity. Former Presidents security arrangements remain fully in place despite the ongoing review.

This security review matters to ordinary Seychellois because it ensures the stability and continuity of State institutions that form the backbone of national governance. Citizens rely on consistent protection protocols for their leaders, both current and former, to maintain public confidence in democratic institutions. The review demonstrates that security agencies remain vigilant and responsive to changing threat assessments.

The Defence Forces are reviewing and adjusting protective measures to ensure the President’s safety and the uninterrupted functioning of State institutions. These measures are precautionary, undertaken in line with established national security frameworks and professional risk management practices. The government emphasised that these actions are not politically motivated and that statutory security arrangements for former Presidents remain fully in place. There is no information indicating any risk to former Presidents or their families.

Seychelles has maintained consistent security protocols for sitting and former presidents since independence in 1976. The current review follows standard procedures for periodic assessment of protective arrangements for senior government officials. Similar reviews have been conducted in previous administrations without public disclosure, reflecting the sensitive nature of security planning.

The government will provide further communication once the current review is complete. In the meantime, the public is urged to remain calm and to engage responsibly as State institutions continue to fulfil their duties with professionalism, neutrality, and respect for the rule of law.

State House remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of protection for all current and former national leaders.
