First Lady brings Christmas cheer to hospital patients
VICTORIA, Seychelles — First Lady Veronique Herminie, joined by Vice-President’s wife Linda Pillay and Health Minister Dr Marvin Fanny, paid the traditional festive visit to the Seychelles Hospital on Wednesday afternoon to bring joy to patients spending the holiday season away from loved ones.
The annual tour began in the paediatric ward and continued through the maternity, female, Hermitte, male surgical and male medical wards. Throughout the rounds, the First Lady greeted patients personally, offering words of comfort and encouragement. Children received small gifts, while adult patients were presented with vouchers as tokens of care and support.
Speaking to the media, Mrs Herminie stressed the importance of remembering those facing difficulties during this time of year. “It is not everyone who celebrates Christmas, but during this season when we are supposed to be happy, we need to remember people who are going through difficulties,” she noted.
Health Minister Dr Fanny, marking his first hospital visit since taking office, said the gesture was about showing patients that staff are there for them. “It is a time to show patients that we are here for them — not only from an office but in person, where there is human connection. This allows us to discuss and work together to give them the best care.”
The visit highlighted what the organisers described as the true spirit of the festive season: compassion, care, solidarity and human connection.
