Family, Friends and Leaders Pay Final Tribute to Stephen Pillay at Anse Royale

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Family, friends, and numerous national figures gathered at the Saint Joseph church in Anse Royale on Wednesday for the funeral of Stephen Philip Pillay, paying their final respects to a figure widely respected for his sense of duty, his closeness to ordinary citizens, and his commitment to the values of respect, dialogue, and solidarity.

The ceremony was attended by President Patrick Herminie and former President Wavel Ramkalawan, whose presence was widely noted as a mark of the esteem in which Mr Pillay was held across the political spectrum. The religious service unfolded in an atmosphere of dignity and recollection, with tributes at the end of the mass recalling his qualities and his long engagement with Seychellois society.
