Social Affairs Minister Charlette Advances Welfare and Community Wellbeing Agenda
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Youth, Marie-Celine Zialor-Charlette, has advanced the ministry’s agenda on social welfare and community wellbeing, outlining a series of measures aimed at strengthening support for vulnerable groups across the islands.
Minister Charlette said the ministry remains focused on ensuring that social protection programmes reach those most in need, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, and low-income families. She noted that recent reforms have improved the targeting and delivery of assistance, but acknowledged that more work is needed to close remaining gaps.
Key initiatives under way include the modernisation of social registers, expanded community-based outreach, and closer collaboration with civil society organisations working on family support, mental health, and youth empowerment.
The minister called on stakeholders in the social sector to continue working in partnership with government, emphasising that building inclusive communities requires a whole-of-society approach.
