Final Preparations Underway for Sunday’s Inauguration of President-elect Dr Herminie
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Final touches were being made on Thursday to the official segment of the inauguration ceremony of Seychelles’ sixth President, Dr Patrick Herminie, which will take place this Sunday at the Stad Linite, Roche Caïman. The ceremony will include the involvement of a guard of honour, which was observed rehearsing on site, and which is set to be the largest ever assembled for such a ceremony in the country.
The ceremony is expected to begin at 5.30pm and will be open to the general public, with the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation providing free transportation to and from various districts. The organising committee has emphasised that the event is a national, non-partisan celebration, and called on all Seychellois to attend in unity. The ceremony will be preceded on Saturday evening by President Wavel Ramkalawan’s final presidential address to the nation, broadcast on SBC 1, SBC radio and TéléSesel at 8pm.
Dr Herminie, the president-elect, will officially take the oath of office on Sunday and serve a five-year term. He was victorious in the presidential runoff held on October 9, 10 and 11, defeating incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan of the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) party. Security and logistical arrangements are being finalised by the police and the organising committee to ensure a smooth and orderly ceremony, with cultural performances and a swearing-in segment expected to feature prominently.
Following the ceremony, Monday October 27, 2025 has been declared a public holiday to allow Seychellois to mark the occasion and reflect on the new chapter in the country’s democratic life.
