Festival Kreol Brings Joy to Elderly on Praslin with Côte d’Or Outing

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A group of elderly women from Baie Sainte Anne on Praslin, together with residents of district elderly homes in Grand Anse, met on the seashore at Côte d’Or on Friday for a relaxing day out as part of the activities of the Festival Kreol.

The activity, organised by the office of the National Sports Council on Praslin in the framework of the Festival Kreol, was well received by participants. A variety of local snacks was on offer, including banana nouga, Creole cake, fried breadfruit and a delicious mango salad, with the highlight being asar that was being sold in the surrounding area.

Representatives of the Island Foundation Seychelles were also present with information and coconuts on display. The women enjoyed dancing to Creole music and then took part in various traditional games, even teaching the children present how to play konos and dominoes. Participants said they thoroughly enjoyed their day and really appreciated the activity, even inviting the organiser to join them on their next activity on Curieuse island.

Sports Council officer for Praslin, Valencia Morel, said the activity had been placed on this year’s programme for Praslin, noting that different activities are held twice a month with the elderly, including visits to the Vallée de Mai and Ravin de Fond Ferdinand reserves.
