Beoliere Road Could Partially Reopen on Friday as Boulder Removal Progresses
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The section of road in Beolière, Port Glaud, which is presently closed, may reopen partially to vehicles and pedestrians from 5pm on Friday, October 17, 2025, if progress continues as planned, the chief risk management officer of the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD), Daniel Cetoupe, has said.
Speaking in an interview with local media on Wednesday, Mr Cetoupe explained that contractors have been working since Tuesday, September 30, 2025, to safely dismantle the 200-tonne overhanging boulder, which posed a significant threat to the surrounding area following the rockfall incident of September 15.
He said the removal operation had reached an advanced stage, with the team now in a position to confirm a partial reopening in stages rather than the full closure that had been in force. The DRMD will continue to assess the slope and surrounding rock mass before giving the all-clear for full traffic resumption.
The DRMD thanked residents and commuters for their patience and reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety. Officers will remain deployed at both ends of the affected section to prevent entry into the danger zone, and photography on site remains strictly prohibited.
