Beoliere Road Closes Again for Rock Removal After Brief Election Opening
VICTORIA, Seychelles — The section of road from Beolière hilltop to the former Mahé Beach Hotel in Port Glaud has been closed again to all motorists and pedestrians, after a brief re-opening from Friday, October 10 at 4pm to Tuesday, October 14 at 8am to facilitate the presidential election voting exercise.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) said the Port Glaud sub-district of Des Arpents remains a declared Potential Disaster Area under the Disaster Risk Management Act, 2014, following the rockfall incident of Monday, September 15, 2025. The road closure is part of ongoing safety measures aimed at reducing the immediate residual risks associated with the incident.
The DRMD said blasting works and the construction of a gabion wall will continue in the coming days. Officers will be deployed at both ends of the affected section to prevent motorists from entering the danger zone, and taking photographs on site remains strictly prohibited.
The division thanked the public for its cooperation and patience, and reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and commuters in the area. Further updates on the reopening timeline will be provided once the post-work survey has been completed and stability of the surrounding area has been confirmed.
