Seychelles Meteorological Authority Predicts Normal Rainy Season

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Meteorological Authority (SMA) is predicting a normal rainy season for the upcoming months, chief executive Vincent Amelie announced during the opening of the Tropical Cyclone Committee Meeting for the Southwest Indian Ocean at the Savoy Resort and Spa on Monday.

Mr Amelie noted that the forecast is based on the analysis of regional and global climate indicators, including sea surface temperatures across the Indian Ocean and prevailing wind patterns. He added that the authority will continue to monitor developments and issue regular updates, particularly as the cyclone season approaches.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant, heed advisories issued by the authority, and avoid spreading unverified information, especially through social media. The Tropical Cyclone Committee Meeting brings together national meteorological services from countries in the Southwest Indian Ocean to coordinate preparedness efforts for the cyclone season.

The meeting is attended by representatives of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and other international partners, who are supporting the strengthening of early warning systems and the exchange of best practices in disaster risk reduction across the region.
